What’s the big deal about cannabis taxes?
Because cannabis businesses traffic a federally-illegal drug, they are not allowed to take normal business deductions on their federal income tax return. As a result, the applicable tax rate is applied to a much higher number, and tax bills are prohibitively larger than other, non-cannabis businesses. There is a lot of nuance to this, related to the entity structure and type of business for example.
